Use Cerebellum to review, filter, and export institutional recruitment data across seasons.
1. What is the Cerebellum Institution Dashboard?
The Cerebellum Institution Dashboard is Thalamus's reporting tool for Institution Managers. It brings together recruitment data from all programs under your institution into a single dashboard, so you can review activity, spot trends, and export records — all in one place.
This guide covers:
Viewing current and previous season data
Navigating between sections
Applying and resetting filters
Exporting data
For information on the specific data available in each section, see Cerebellum Data and Optimizing Cerebellum Data.

2. Before starting
Before using the Cerebellum Institution Dashboard, make sure:
You have an active Thalamus account with Institution Manager permissions
Your institution's programs have conducted at least one recruitment season using Thalamus or Cortex
| Note: Recruitment seasons conducted outside of Thalamus or Cortex will not appear in Cerebellum. |
3. Viewing current and previous season data
Cerebellum allows you to review data from both the current recruitment season and past seasons.
| Note: The season list updates every 24 hours as new seasons are created in Thalamus and Cortex. |
To select a season:
Log in to Cerebellum. The dashboard will default to the last season you accessed. On your first login, it will default to the current or most recent recruitment season
Locate the Season dropdown in the upper right-hand corner of the page
Select the season you would like to review
To switch to a different season at any time, select the Season dropdown again and choose a new season
| Note: Season dates reflect the period during which applicants were being recruited and not the period during which they will train. For example, an applicant who interviewed in November 2021 would appear in the 2021–2022 recruitment season. |
4. Navigating between sections
The Cerebellum Institution Dashboard is organized into the following sections:
To navigate between sections:
Use the scroll bar on the right-hand side of the page to move up and down through the dashboard sections.
5. Applying filters
Some sections in Cerebellum allow you to apply filters to narrow down the data displayed. Filters help you focus on specific applicant groups, locations, or characteristics.
How filters work:
Filters are located above the upper right-hand corner of each report within a section
Applying filters across two different categories acts as an "and" filter. For example, filtering by both Medical School and Self-Identification will show applicants who match both criteria
Applying two or more filters within the same category acts as an "or" filter. For example, filtering for more than one medical school will show applicants from any of the selected schools
To apply a filter:
Navigate to the section you want to filter
Locate the Filters option above the upper right-hand corner of the report
-
Select the category of data you want to filter. Depending on the section, available filter categories may include:
Current Address State
Current Address Country
Permanent Address State
Permanent Address Country
Medical School
Medical School Type
Medical School State
Health Equity / Applicant Self-Identification
Applicant Gender
Applicant Status
Choose the appropriate option from the dropdown menu for that filter category
Select Apply Filters. The data table and graphs in that section will update to reflect your selections
| Note: Filters apply only to the specific section where they are set. For example, filters applied to the Programs section will not carry over to the Geographical Recruitment section. Filters must be applied independently in each section. |
To adjust or reset filters:
After applying filters, two additional options are available:
Reset — returns the filters to their last applied state. Use this if you want to undo changes you have made since your last apply
Clear All — removes all filters currently applied to that section, returning the view to its unfiltered state
6. Exporting data
Cerebellum allows you to export graphs, images, and data tables. The available export formats depend on the section.

7. Frequently asked questions
Question |
Answer |
Will filters I apply in one section carry over to other sections? |
No. Filters are section-specific and must be applied independently in each section. |
What is the difference between Reset and Clear All? |
Reset returns filters to their last applied state. Clear All removes all filters entirely, restoring the unfiltered view. |
Why does my season list not include a past season? |
Seasons conducted outside of Thalamus or Cortex will not appear in Cerebellum. The season list also updates every 24 hours, so a newly created season may not appear immediately. |
Can I export filtered data? |
Yes. Apply your filters first, then use the hamburger menu to export. The export will reflect the filtered data currently displayed. |
Who can access the Cerebellum Institution Dashboard? |
Institution Managers have full access to this dashboard. |
