Health Equity Outcomes for Institution Cerebellum Dashboard

Review the distribution of self-identified applicant groups across your institution's recruitment pipeline, and compare that data against state, regional, and national population benchmarks.

1. What is the Health Equity Outcomes Dashboard?

The Health Equity Outcomes section of the Cerebellum Institution Dashboard displays the percentage of applicants within each self-identification group across your institution's programs. The data is intended to help institutions understand how different applicant populations move through each stage of the recruitment process.

2. Before starting

Before using this dashboard, confirm the following:

  • You have access to Cerebellum at your institution

  • Your programs have uploaded applicant data into Cortex or Thalamus

  • Your programs have used Thalamus features such as interview scheduling and rank lists, as those actions populate the status-level data in the dashboard

Note: If any status (Applied, Invited, Scheduled, Completed, Ranked, or Matched) is missing from a chart, it means that feature was not used in Thalamus or Cortex by the programs at your institution.

3. The Health Equity Matrix

The Health Equity Matrix visualizes how applicants self-identify across multiple categories at the same time. Each applicant is included in up to three identifying categories, which covers 99.99% of all applicants. The categories displayed reflect the major ethnographic groups present in GME applications, with additional categories included for populations with large applicant counts.

How to read it:

  • Select a self-identification category on each axis

  • The value at the intersection shows the total number of applicants who self-identify in both selected categories

  • The No Identification field shows the count of applicants who did not report any self-identification

This chart helps identify overlapping population groups within your institution's applicant pool.

4. Health Equity vs. Population Census Comparison

This chart compares your institution's applicant pool against state, regional, and national census data.

Use this chart to:

  • Understand how your institution's applicant demographics compare to the broader population

  • Identify gaps between applicant representation and census benchmarks at different geographic levels

5. Health Equity by Status

This chart shows how applicants from each self-identification group progress through each stage of the recruitment process.

Note: If your programs did not use the Thalamus Rank List, visit Optimizing Cerebellum Data to learn how to populate this status.

Note: To learn how to mark applicants as matched, visit Mark Applicants as Matched.

6. Filtering the data

All three charts can be filtered to narrow results by the following criteria:

  • Current Address State

  • Current Address Country

  • Permanent Address State

  • Permanent Address Country

  • Medical School

  • Medical School Type

  • Medical School State

  • Gender

To apply filters, use the filter controls available at the top of the dashboard. For full instructions on applying filters and exporting data, visit Navigating Cerebellum.

7. How the data is calculated

Self-identified percentages are calculated from data submitted by applicants through their GME applications and captured in Thalamus and Cortex.

Each status is calculated as follows:

Status

How it is calculated

Applied

Unique applications uploaded by programs into Cortex, or applicants uploaded into Thalamus for programs not using Cortex

Invited

Applicants invited to interview by programs in Thalamus

Scheduled

Applicants who scheduled or were scheduled for an interview in Thalamus

Completed

Applicants who completed an interview in Thalamus

Ranked

Applicants ranked on the default rank list in Thalamus; excludes Do Not Rank designations

Matched

Applicants marked as matched in Thalamus

8. Frequently asked questions

Question

Answer

Why aren't more self-identification categories shown?

The categories selected reflect the highest-level groups on standard GME applications, plus the largest additional categories by applicant volume. The goal is to present an inclusive and useful view while accurately representing subcategories within each group.

Why is a status missing from the chart?

If a status does not appear, the corresponding Thalamus or Cortex feature was not used by the programs at your institution for that recruitment season.

Is this data in real time?

No. Dashboard data refreshes daily and reflects the most recently available information.

Can I export this data?

Yes. Export options are available within Cerebellum. Visit Navigating Cerebellum for instructions.

Can I see data for a specific program?

This dashboard reflects institution-level data across all programs. Program-level views are available in the Program Dashboard.
