Use the Health Equity Recruitment Outcomes section in Cerebellum to review how applicants self-identify across demographic categories and compare those distributions to specialty benchmarks.
1. What is the Health Equity Recruitment Outcomes section?
The Health Equity Recruitment Outcomes section displays two key views:
Health Equity Recruitment Overview — the percentage of applicants in each self-identification group, how that compares to specialty benchmarks, and the percentage of each group at a specific status in Thalamus or Cortex.
Health Equity Matrix — a detailed breakdown of applicant self-identification data across demographic categories.
Each applicant is included in up to three identifying categories. This covers the vast majority of all applicants. The categories reflect major ethnographic groups presented in GME applications, along with additional categories that have large applicant populations.

2. Before starting
Before using the Health Equity Recruitment Outcomes section, make sure:
You have access to Cerebellum
Your program has applicant data available for the current recruitment season
Applicants in your pool have submitted self-identification information through their GME applications
| Note: Not all applicants choose to self-identify. Data displayed reflects only those applicants who provided self-identification responses. |
3. Understanding the Health Equity Recruitment Overview
The Health Equity Recruitment Overview chart gives you a snapshot of your applicant pool's demographic composition, compared to specialty-level benchmarks.
For each self-identification group, the chart shows:
The percentage of your applicants who identify with that group
A comparison to the specialty benchmark for that group
The percentage of that group at a specific status in Thalamus or Cortex (for example, applicants who have been invited to interview)
How to read the chart
Each column grouping represents a self-identification category
Your program's percentage is displayed alongside the specialty benchmark
Differences between your program and the benchmark can help identify patterns in your applicant review and selection process
4. Understanding the Health Equity Matrix
The Health Equity Matrix provides a more detailed view of how applicants in your pool self-identify across multiple demographic dimensions simultaneously.
Use this section to:
Review intersectional demographic patterns across your applicant pool
Compare applicant representation across categories side by side
Support your program's equity-focused review discussions
| Note: Data in the Health Equity Matrix reflects the same applicant population shown in the Recruitment Overview. The two views complement each other. |
