SOAP Week FAQ

Answers to commonly asked questions about using Thalamus Core during the NRMP's Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP) week.

Roles: Program Director, Program Coordinator, Program Administrator

How do I opt in to use Thalamus for SOAP season?

No action is required. All Thalamus Residency programs will automatically have SOAP mode enabled starting the first Monday of March. When SOAP mode is enabled, programs can begin setting up SOAP specific events and scorecards.

How do I duplicate a Core or Cortex scorecard for use in SOAP?

  1. Navigate to Score Administration from the upper menu bar.
  2. Select the Scorecards tab.
  3. Locate the scorecard you want to duplicate.
  4. Click the triple-dot menu (⋮) in the upper right corner of the scorecard row.
  5. Select "Duplicate scorecard".
  1. The new scorecard will appear at the end of your list as "Copy 1 of [Scorecard Name]".
  2. Click into the new scorecard to update it:
    • Scorecard name — rename it to something clear (e.g., "SOAP Interview Scorecard")
    • Competencies & questions — edit as needed for your SOAP evaluation criteria
  3. In the dropdown menu labeled "Scorecard to be used in", select "SOAP".
  1. Save the scorecard. It is now available for scoring SOAP applicants, and scores entered using this scorecard will feed into your SOAP rank list.

Note: Only scorecards assigned to "SOAP" in the dropdown will generate scores on the SOAP rank list. If you score applicants using a scorecard assigned to "Core" or "Cortex", those scores will not appear on the SOAP rank list.

I scored my SOAP applicants but they're not appearing on my rank list — how do I fix this?

SOAP applicants must be scored using a SOAP-specific scorecard. Scores entered on your regular recruitment season scorecard will not appear on the SOAP rank list.

To fix this:

  1. Navigate to Score Administration from the upper menu bar.
  2. Locate the scorecard you used to score your SOAP applicants. If it is your regular season scorecard, you will need to create a SOAP-specific version.
  3. Set the existing scorecard's status to Pending.
  4. Duplicate the scorecard and assign it to SOAP (see the next question below for step-by-step instructions).
  5. Score your SOAP applicant using the new SOAP-specific scorecard.
  6. Once scored, the applicants will appear on your SOAP rank list.

Tip: To avoid this issue, create your SOAP scorecard before you begin scoring SOAP applicants. Duplicate an existing scorecard and assign it to SOAP at the start of SOAP week.
