Review, reorder, and export your SOAP Rank List from Thalamus Core for submission to the NRMP's R3 system.
Roles: Program Director, Program Coordinator, Program Administrator

- SOAP applicants scored and ranked using a SOAP scorecard
- Aggregate SOAP scoring configured
How the SOAP Rank List Works
With SOAP Mode, a dedicated SOAP Rank List is automatically created and available to your program. This list is separate from your default (regular season) rank list.
Applicants with at least one submitted SOAP scorecard will automatically be placed on the SOAP Rank List. Their position is determined by their aggregated SOAP score.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Any manual changes to the SOAP rank list will not impact the Default or any Additional Rank lists.
Viewing the SOAP Rank List
- Navigate to the Rank List section from the upper menu bar or via the applicant management area.
- Select the SOAP tab to view the SOAP Rank List.
The SOAP Rank List displays each applicant's name, SOAP score, AAMC ID, NRMP ID (if available), school, interview date, and rank position.
Reordering Applicants
Applicants are automatically ranked by their SOAP score when added to the list. You can manually adjust rank positions using any of these methods:
- Drag and drop — click and drag an applicant to a new position
- Jump to rank # — enter a specific rank number to move an applicant directly
- Other reordering methods available on the default rank list work the same way on the SOAP rank list
Exporting for NRMP R3
You can export your SOAP Rank List as a .txt file for direct import into the NRMP's R3 system.
- From the SOAP Rank List, click the Export button.
- In the export modal, select your desired format:
- NRMP (txt) by AAMC ID — for import into R3 using AAMC IDs
- NRMP (txt) by NRMP ID — for import into R3 using NRMP IDs
- Additional formats available: Excel, CSV (comma, semicolon, or tab delimited)
- Optionally check "Exclude DNR applicants from the export" if applicable.
- Click Confirm. The file will download to your device.
Things to Know
SOAP applicants cannot be added to an additional rank list
SOAP applicants exist only on the SOAP Rank List. They cannot be moved to or included on your default (regular season) rank list.
Only SOAP-scored applicants appear on this list. If an applicant was scored using a Core or Cortex scorecard instead of a SOAP scorecard, they will not appear on the SOAP Rank List. See SOAP Scoring & Scorecards to fix this.
Review your list before exporting. Once you import the .txt file into NRMP's R3 system, changes should be made in R3 directly. Make sure your rank order is finalized in Thalamus before exporting.

After SOAP concludes:
- Mark matched applicants with a status of "Matched" on the SOAP tab
- The SOAP tab remains accessible for scoring, emails, and marking applicants as Matched even after the import window closes
