2. Before starting

Before using the Geographic Recruitment Outcomes section, make sure:

  • You have access to the Cerebellum Institution Dashboard

  • Your programs have applicant data available in Thalamus or Cortex

  • Applicant address data has been uploaded or imported (see How the data is aggregated below)

3. How to view the geographic map

To view institution-wide geographic data:

  1. Log in to Cerebellum

  2. Navigate to the Institution Dashboard

  3. Select the Geographic section

The map will load and display applicant density across all programs within your institution.

The map plots applicants using up to three location data points:

  • Current Address — where the applicant currently lives

  • Permanent Address — the applicant's permanent home address

  • Medical School / Training Program Address — the location of the applicant's medical school or training program

Note: Each data point can be toggled on or off independently, so you can view one, two, or all three at the same time.

4. How the data is aggregated

The map pulls applicant location data from two sources: Thalamus and Cortex.

Note: If address data is missing for an applicant, that applicant will not appear on the map for the corresponding location type.

5. Customizing the map view

You can control which location types are displayed on the map at any time.

To toggle a location type on or off:

  1. Locate the location type checkboxes displayed on the map interface

  2. Select or deselect the checkbox next to Current Address, Permanent Address, or Medical School / Training Program Address

  3. The map will update immediately to reflect your selection

This is useful when you want to isolate a specific data point. For example, viewing only Medical School locations to understand where your applicants trained.

You can zoom in or out on the map to adjust your view. Zoom out to see a global overview of applicant locations, or zoom in to explore a more localized area.

6. Frequently asked questions

Question

Answer

Can I view data for just one program instead of the whole institution?

Yes. Use the Institution dropdown on the top-left of the Cerebellum home page to select a specific program.

What if an applicant's address is missing from the map?

The applicant will not appear on the map for that location type. Make sure their address data has been uploaded or imported correctly.

Does the map update in real time?

Map data reflects what has been imported into Thalamus or Cortex. It is not displayed in real time — data updates based on when information is synced or uploaded.

Can I export the geographic data?

For export options, refer to the Filters, Exporting, and Viewing Previous Seasons for Cerebellum Institution Dashboard guide.

Can I view data from a previous recruitment season?

Yes. Visit the Filters, Exporting, and Viewing Previous Seasons for Cerebellum Institution Dashboard guide for instructions.

Where can I learn more about optimizing my Cerebellum data?

Visit the Optimizing Cerebellum Institution Data guide.
