Use filters, export reports, and switch between recruitment seasons in Cerebellum.
1. What is the this guide for?
This guide explains how to use four core navigation features in Cerebellum:
Switching between recruitment seasons
Moving between report sections
Applying, resetting, and clearing filters
Exporting graphs and data tables
For information on the specific data within each section, see the Cerebellum Data and Optimizing Cerebellum Data guides.

2. Before starting
Before using filters and exports in Cerebellum, make sure:
You have access to Cerebellum
Your program has recruitment data available for the season you want to review
You are logged in with a role that has access to reports
3. Viewing current and previous seasons
Cerebellum lets you review data from both the current recruitment season and any past seasons in which your program used Thalamus or Cortex.
| Note: Seasons not conducted in Thalamus or Cortex will not appear in Cerebellum. As new seasons are created, your season list updates every 24 hours. |
To switch between seasons:
Log in to Cerebellum. Your view will default to the last season you accessed. On your first login, it will default to your most recent recruitment season.
Select the Season dropdown in the upper-right corner of the page.
Choose the season you want to review.
To return to a different season at any time, select the Season dropdown again and choose your desired season.
| Note: Season dates reflect when you were actively recruiting applicants and not when they begin training. For example, applicants interviewed in November 2021 appear in the 2021–2022 recruitment season. |
4. Navigating between sections
Cerebellum is organized into eight sections, each displaying different recruitment data:
To navigate between sections:
Scroll through sections using your mouse or the scroll bar on the right side of the page.
Jump to a section using the Jump to Section navigation bar on the left side of your screen.
Select the section name from the list. The page will scroll directly to that section.
5. Applying filters
Each report section in Cerebellum has its own set of filters. Filters help you narrow down the data being displayed.
How filters work:
Filters applied across two different categories use AND logic. For example, filtering by both Medical School and Self Identification will show only applicants matching both.
Filters applied within the same category use OR logic. For example, selecting two medical schools will show applicants from either school.
Filters are section-specific. For example, filters applied in Program Summary Statistics do not carry over to other sections.
Applying a filter
Navigate to the section you want to filter using the steps in Section 4.
Locate the Filters area in the upper-right corner of the report.
If filters are not visible, select the Filters label to expand them.
-
Select the filter category you want to apply. Available categories vary by section and may include:
Current Address State
Current Address Country
Permanent Address State
Permanent Address Country
Medical School
Medical School Type
Medical School State
Self Identification
Gender
Applicant Status
Choose your desired value from the dropdown for that filter.
Select Apply Filters. The data table and graphs will update to reflect your selection.
To add or change filters, repeat the steps above and select Apply Filters again.
Resetting and clearing filters
Two options are available to undo applied filters. Both options are located in the lower-right corner of the filter area for each report section.
| Option | What it does |
| Reset | Returns all filters to their last applied state. Use this if you want to undo recent changes without losing your previous filter setup. |
| Clear All | Removes all filters entirely. Use this to start fresh with no filters applied. |
| Note: If you are unsure which option to use, Reset brings you back to your last saved filter state, while Clear All removes everything and shows unfiltered data. |

7. Frequently asked questions
Question |
Answer |
Why can't I see a previous season? |
Only seasons conducted in Thalamus or Cortex are available in Cerebellum. Seasons outside of those platforms will not appear. |
Do filters carry over between sections? |
No. Filters are section-specific and must be applied independently in each section. |
What is the difference between Reset and Clear All? |
Reset returns filters to their last applied state. Clear All removes all filters so the data is fully unfiltered. |
Does my exported data reflect the filters I applied? |
Yes. Exports reflect the current filtered view at the time of export. |
How often does season data update? |
Season lists update every 24 hours as new seasons are created in Thalamus and Cortex. |
Can I export an acknowledgement certificate from this section? |
No. Acknowledgement certificates are accessed separately from the Applicant Acknowledgement Package Report in Thalamus Core. |
